However, the Big 3 no longer control auto manufacturing in the US the way they once did, and they have been slow to reduce manufacturing costs and the conversion to electric vehicles. EV’s are mechanically simpler than gas-powered vehicles, and as such fewer workers are required to build them. This is a critical issue as the UAW seeks job protections. The Journal reporting is not getting to the critical issues in this negotiation.
