News for November 6 — Incorrect Nutritional Advice from Fox

Incorrect nutritional advice from Fox: https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/spinach-vs-kale-which-better-nutritionists-settle-debate . Sigh. At least this gives me a chance to dispel a common myth. Fox states the commonly held belief that spinach is a good source of iron. However, most of the iron in spinach has low bioavailability: https://www.nutritics.com/en/resources/blog/why-most-of-the-iron-in-spinach-is-surprisingly-useless . Please don’t believe Fox about anything – they almost never know what they are talking about.

The death toll is allegedly over 10,000, although other sources dispute that. At some point, the war will move to the tunnels. This is likely to cause a sharp increase in casualties among both the IDF and Hamas. WSJ: More: https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/israeli-military-poised-for-battle-for-gaza-city-755f3702 .

GOP third debate qualifiers: https://www.aol.com/news/factbox-qualified-third-2024-republican-233739571.html . The reporter fails to note that Orange Julius qualified for the debate but will again skip it, because who cares? All of the people on the stage poll 15% or less of GOP voters in almost every poll in every state.

Should Biden drop out?: https://www.aol.com/former-obama-adviser-david-axelrod-141953456.html . This is ridiculous. The Democrats do not in fact have anyone who could surely beat OJ. Polls show Biden behind OJ in 5 key battleground states, just as Obama was at this point in the 2008 campaign. Also, Axelrod ignores the fact that OJ is likely to lose several of his trials by that date. I also suspect that some “moderate” Republicans will endorse Biden before this is all over. That doesn’t prove Biden will win, but it makes a vastly better case for victory than “start over”.

One more thing – some have suggested that Gretchen Whitmer would be an excellent presidential candidate. I agree. However, she has no national experience (Biden obviously does, and it’s a good record to run on), and she will lose some votes because she’s a woman. When you look at the swing states, I just don’t see how she’s a stronger candidate than Biden. And OJ’s one election victory was against a woman …

OJ at the bar: https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/06/politics/takeaways-trump-engoron-testimony-fraud-trial/index.html . Quite obviously, this trial is already lost. There will likely be an appeal, which will also lose. So OJ and his lawyers have decided to make this a fundraising event. No one is surprised. Michigan sign-stealing investigation at NCAA heats up: https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-ncaa-says-ohio-states-ryan-day-has-no-known-ties-to-michigan-sign-stealing-probe-232306097.html . Among the many disturbing aspects of this mess, why would the NCAA appoint Ric Flair as their investigator? Apparently, the sign-stealing was a multi-year effort with up to 65 people involved in attending opponents’ games. Undoubtedly, this information was used in some way at Michigan.

Did the NCAA appoint Ric Flair, who has no investigative or football background, in order to avoid having the facts embarrass them? Also, Michigan wants “due process” to delay things as the Big 10 consumes much of the Pac-12. This all stinks big-time. WSJ: Father of Highland Park shooter pleads guilty: https://www.wsj.com/us-news/father-of-accused-highland-park-shooter-pleads-guilty-to-reckless-conduct-2e8774ed . The good news is that some legal culpability has been applied to this reckless behavior. However, 60 days is an insulting slap on the wrist when so many people died.
